Last week, Richmond Police Department patrol officers arrested a suspect after a seemingly ordinary traffic stop turned up much more than a moving violation. During the stop at 18th St and Chanslor Ave, officers encountered a driver already on the books as a convicted felon. When questioned, the driver admitted to having ammunition but denied the presence of a firearm in the vehicle.
However, the officers' search of the car brought to light not just a hidden loaded firearm but also an assortment of narcotics. According to a post on the Richmond Police Department's Facebook page, the narcotics cache included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, MDMA, and marijuana, all seemingly prepped for sale. This unexpected discovery swelled beyond a mere traffic infraction to a much weightier crime.
The Richmond Police Department credits their patrol officers' attentiveness for the arrest of the driver, who now faces charges for illegal possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of an unlawful loaded firearm. The social media post declared this event a 'significant win for our community safety,' emphasizing the importance of such seizures in assuring safer neighborhoods.
