Residents and commuters in St. John the Baptist Parish can expect a full-day road closure on LA 53 (Central Avenue) due to railroad repair work. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the CN Railroad crossing, situated a mere 0.53 miles north of LA 44, will be inaccessible from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, weather permitting.
During this period, CN Railroad crews are set to upgrade the track and asphalt surface, necessitating the closure. For those navigating the area, DOTD has mapped out detour routes to circumvent the impediment. Motorists traveling north on LA 53 were advised to take LA 44 west to LA 637, then following it north to connect with US 61 before looping back east to LA 53. While heading south, the suggested detour will be to take US 61 west, to LA 637 south, and then LA 44 east, eventually rejoining LA 53.
The department advises drivers to remain patient and cautious, particularly when traveling through the construction zone. Ensuring the safety of work crews and their equipment is a top priority, and increased awareness on the road is encouraged.
As repair work progresses on the region’s infrastructure, DOTD expresses appreciation for the public’s patience and advises drivers to remain alert to temporary disruptions affecting daily commutes. The detours are designed to keep routes open and maintain traffic flow during the railroad crossing closure.
