On Sunday morning, chaos erupted in American Canyon as a high-speed pursuit unfolded, ultimately leading to the arrest of a reckless driver identified as 20-year-old Rohnert Park resident Jordan Vazquez Hernandez. According to a social media post by the American Canyon Police Department, the incident began when a K-9 Officer noticed Hernandez driving erratically in a Toyota Scion near Flosden and American Canyon Roads, just before 1:00 A.M.
Hernandez, attempting to flee an illegal sideshow in Vallejo, didn't stop for the officer and instead accelerated, leading the police on a dangerous chase that headed south toward Vallejo. The suspect then doubled back, heading north as they pursued, running through red lights and stop signs. Along the way, Hernandez rammed the K-9 unit's vehicle, disabling it, though the officer and his K-9 companion were not injured. Continuation of the pursuit saw Hernandez striking an unrelated vehicle at the intersection of Highway 29 and Donaldson Way, resulting in minor injuries for the other motorist, who was later treated at a local hospital.
The pursuit continued northbound on Highway 29 with Hernandez driving recklessly until his own vehicle eventually gave out near Lombard Crossing. Officers apprehended Hernandez, discovered he was unlicensed, and he was subsequently booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections. Hernandez faces a slew of charges, including felony evading with willful disregard for public safety, evading an officer causing injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and assault with a deadly weapon.
