A serious accident in Westmoreland County this Tuesday led to the closure of a busy stretch of Route 66 after a three-vehicle crash involving a Jeep SUV, a white pickup truck, and a dump truck. WTAE reported first responders were at the scene on Muffley Drive in Washington Township, with footage showing the extent of the collision.
Authorities have yet to report any injuries at the time. The chaos of the collision showed the potential for harm as vehicles were left twisted on the road. TribLIVE updated that one individual was airlifted to a hospital, confirming the serious nature of the accident. As a result, Route 66 was closed between its split with Route 356 and Reservoir Road, impacting traffic heavily in the area.
On the scene were multiple ambulances and response units from nearby Oklahoma Borough and Washington Township fire departments. "An investigation is ongoing," Washington Township police Sgt. Dakota Drew conveyed to TribLIVE, indicating that officials are probing into the circumstances that led up to the crash.
