Salem Police Department is currently investigating two shootings that resulted in fatal injuries overnight in two separate locations. According to KATU, the first incident occurred when officers responded to a reported collision around 12:30 a.m. near 40th Place and Carson Drive SE. It was at this location officers discovered a 30-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the roadway. The victim, whose name has yet to be released pending family notification, was transported to Salem Health and was later pronounced dead.

Approximately an hour after the first incident, multiple callers reported gunfire at a homeless campsite located in Wallace Marine Park. Officers found a 60-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds within a wooded area of the park. Despite the challenging terrain, officers carried the man to paramedics, as reported by KOIN. The man was quickly taken to Salem Health, where he was also later pronounced dead. The roadway, Carson Drive, remains closed between 40th Place and Coolidge Drive SE while the investigation continues into the first incident.

The investigations into both shootings are being led by the Salem Police Violent Crimes Unit. The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Section is assisting with the case that occurred in Wallace Marine Park. Oregon Live notes, detectives believe that the two shootings are "isolated and unrelated." No further information regarding the specifics of either case has been made available at this time.
