District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced the indictment of three men on multiple felony charges, bringing San Francisco’s ongoing battle against narcotics trafficking back into the spotlight. The individuals in question, Javier Avara (39), Freddy Doblado-Garcia (20), and Oscar Izaguirre-Figueroa (20), are facing serious accusations connected to the sale and transport of illicit drugs, specifically fentanyl and methamphetamine, in the South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's official press release, all three suspects pleaded not guilty during their arraignment last Friday.

With each count of felony carrying considerable weight, Mr. Avara is charged with seven counts of the sale of narcotics. At the time of the offense charged, he was out on either bail or his recognizance from four previously pending felony narcotics cases. Mr. Doblado-Garcia stands accused of six counts, whereas Mr. Izaguirre-Figueroa faces four. Arrested last Wednesday, after being observed using BART to travel from Alameda County to San Francisco, the accused were subsequently found in possession of large amounts of fentanyl, with each allegedly holding over 100 grams, a grave concern given the drug's potency and danger to the community.

The San Francisco Police Department's investigation led to their detention along with a fourth man on the 800 block of Market Street, who was caught purchasing methamphetamine from one of the group members. In their search, police discovered 52.6 grams of fentanyl and other items on Mr. Avara, whereas Mr. Doblado-Garcia was found with 52.2 grams of the same substance, along with a machete in his backpack. Mr. Izaguirre-Figueroa's possession included 27.6 grams of fentanyl, which the arresting officer identified before even seeing it, recognizing its distinct texture through the fabric of his pocket.

These charges led the District Attorney's Office to move aggressively to keep the suspects in custody without bail, emphasizing the public safety risk they pose. Scheduled for a preliminary hearing next Wednesday, Mr. Avara, Mr. Doblado-Garcia, and Mr. Izaguirre-Figueroa remain detained. A search at an Alameda County residence found additional drugs and cash in a room allegedly connected to Mr. Avara and Mr. Doblado-Garcia, reinforcing the gravity of the case against them. It should be noted that while charges have been filed, the investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
