Yesterday, San Mateo Police Department officers apprehended a suspect alleged to have been caught in the act of stealing mail. The arrest occurred near Wharfside Road and Mariners Island Boulevard, where 34-year-old San Mateo resident Christopher Henry was found to possess a reportedly stolen e-bike, among other items. The e-bike was later identified as belonging to someone in San Bruno. San Mateo Police reported that witnesses and surveillance footage indicated mail theft had occurred just before Henry's arrest.
The incident unfolded around 3:23 AM on the 2100 block of Vista Del Mar after the police received several reports of an ongoing theft. Officers responded quickly and were able to locate Henry, who was said to match the suspect's description. Henry brought evidence that would soon prove burdensome in the light of day: a duffel bag containing burglary tools. His arrest was based on probable cause for possessing stolen property and mail theft.
Upon his arrest, Henry faced additional charges once a search incident revealed burglary tools in his bag. He was also found to be wanted on two outstanding local warrants. As laid out in the official police statement, Henry now faces charges of possession of stolen property, mail theft, possession of burglary tools, and the warrants above.
Following the arrest, Henry was booked into San Mateo County Jail.
