The stakes are high, with the Mayor's seat and spots for each of the six City Council districts up for grabs. Hopeful candidates are poised to enter the fray starting August 18, as announced by the city officials.
According to the City of Sandy Springs website, the qualifying period for this election will take place at the City Clerk's office, located at Sandy Springs City Hall, 1 Galambos Way. Aspiring public servants can throw their hats into the ring between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., from Monday, August 18 through Thursday, August 21, and wrapping up between 8:30 a.m., and 12 p.m. on Friday, August 22.
Candidates looking to qualify for a spot on the ballot have a couple of options. They can either file a Notice of Candidacy and cough up the qualifying fee or, for those unable to meet the financial requirement, there's the alternate route of submitting a Qualifying Petition along with a Pauper's Affidavit to certify their inability to pay. These steps fall in line with state laws as denoted in the O.C.G.A. Sections 21-2-132(g) and 21-2-132(h). The Mayor hopefuls are looking at a $1,260 fee while those aiming for a Council seat should be ready to part with $780.
