The City of Sandy Springs is extending an invitation to its residents to have a direct hand in shaping their environment. On Thursday, August 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., community members can engage in a dialogue about the future design guidelines for various commercial sectors of the city. The public meeting will happen at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, specifically within the Studio Theatre Lobby, located at 1 Galambos Way.
During this third public dialogue, attendees will examine the blueprint that could define the city's design ethos. They're not only set to receive an overview of the whole structure but also provide their insights on that structure. Highlighting the agenda is the preliminary design approach for areas such as City Springs, North End, and Perimeter, which the public will review and discuss. When leaving the Performing Arts Center, while getting caught up in the crossfire of thoughts and critiques, visitors will have faced the emerging aesthetic that could soon hallmark their city.
Beyond the physical meeting, Sandy Springs officials have made available an online platform for those unable to attend or preferring digital participation. Starting on the same day, August 21, and running until September 8, the city’s residents can surf through presentation materials and express their perspectives via an online survey and comment section.
The intent behind these public meetings, which have been in the works for some time, is grounded in a desire to ensure development aligns with the city's congressionally approved planning documents and the Development Code. With additional guidelines around building features, sites, landscaping, and the streetscape, the aesthetic fabric of six key commercial and mixed-use areas of the city, including Powers Ferry and two areas on the southern end of Roswell Rd., will be carefully crafted. Eagerly received by the community, these plans, they're hopes pinned upon, are the bearers of a future, unique sense of place for Sandy Springs.
