The King Neighborhood in Portland became the site of a sorrowful update as Curtis Leroy Palmer, the driver involved in the tragic crash on August 7, succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on Tuesday. The crash also claimed the life of pedestrian DaRon V. Craig, aged 49, earlier this month. The City of Portland confirmed the driver’s passing and has been in touch with the family about Palmer's death.
A report detailing the aftermath of the incident noted that the condition of the other pedestrian, initially believed to be critical, has stabilized. Although his injuries, as they were told to be extremely serious, he remains hospitalized but is no longer under the threat of imminent death, as per the City of Portland. In an unfortunate twist of wording, the silver Ford Escape involved was found with significant front-end damage after hitting Craig and the other pedestrian, besides a small Toyota pickup that also sustained damage.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Portland Police Traffic Investigations Unit (TIU) has not yet made any arrests nor handed out citations in direct connection with the accident. The details surrounding the events leading up to the fatal accident remain unclear. The Portland Police TIU continues its meticulous combing through of the evidence, urging anyone with information to step forward.
