Sevierville locals had the opportunity to ensure their little ones were buckled up securely as the Sevierville Police Department hosted a free child car safety seat event today. Taking place at the Chick-fil-A on 770 Winfield Dunn Parkway, trained technicians from SPD were on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering their expertise to parents and caregivers who wanted to make sure they had their car seats installed correctly.
The event, firmly rooted in the Sevierville community's safety concerns, allowed for inspections of already-owned car seats, recommendations for age-appropriate safety gear for children, and a platform where questions about transitioning from car seats to booster seats and regular seat belts could be answered. According to a social media post from the Sevierville Police Department, their commitment to "helping parents and caregivers make sure their children ride as safely as possible - every trip, every time" was a clear prioritization for the day's events.
Beyond the hands-on safety checks, the SPD event also provided an avenue to educate attendees on the WHALE program, which stands for "We Have A Little Emergency." This program helps emergency responders in case of an accident by providing identifying information for the child if the driver is unable to. Should car seat inquiries arise outside the scope of this event, parents are encouraged to reach out to the Sevierville Police Department at any time during the year, with a recommendation to call ahead at 865-453-5506 to confirm a certified technician's availability.
For those who missed out on this occasion, or who may require further assistance with their child's travel safety, the SPD made it known they welcome questions throughout the year, suggesting parents reach out to SPD Lieutenant Rebecca Cowan via email at [email protected] for any additional information or support. The event not only served as a pragmatic approach to vehicular safety, but also underscored, the intrinsic value Sevierville places on its younger citizens.
