In a serious escalation of gun violence, the Shelby County District Attorney's Office reported the appearance of Defendant McKinney in court facing multiple charges about a shooting incident. McKinney is charged with six counts of attempted second-degree murder, six counts of employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, according to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.
Involved in the incident was a vehicle with six occupants, including four children, who were reportedly assaulted and fired upon by the defendant as they left an apartment complex after picking up diapers. While driving away from the complex, they were unprovoked when the defendant opened fire, as video evidence presented in court showed.
During the hearing, a victim gave testimony about the assault and the shooting, supported by the lead detective's confirmation that McKinney had admitted to the shooting. The court, having reviewed the evidence, found probable cause for all charges. McKinney's incarceration continues on a $100,000 bond as the case progresses toward a grand jury indictment.
