The Shrewsbury Police Department has released its crime report for the week of August 11 through 17, detailing a series of incidents from fake temporary license plates to rampant merchandise destruction at a local business.
According to the Shrewsbury Police Department's report, on August 11, a traffic stop on Watson Road resulted in an arrest after an officer found the vehicle's temporary tag expired and discovered it to be counterfeit, in addition; the driver lacked a driver's license and insurance. Similarly, two days later, a woman was arrested for shoplifting, claiming economic pressure led her to steal items that seemed unrelated to basic needs, such as tequila and dog treats.
The report further highlighted a theft on August 14, where an employee's firearm was stolen from his vehicle, a matter that remains under investigation. The following day presented two distinct cases: one involving a speeding driver without plates and driving privileges, followed by an arrest; and another concerning a suspect causing over $1,200 in damages by throwing merchandise, including watermelons and chocolate milk at a local business.
Moreover, an accidental shooting incident was included in the report, happening on August 16 when a man mistakenly fired a supposedly unloaded gun, injuring himself and necessitating immediate medical attention by first responders who provided a tourniquet until medics transported him for further care, and on the same day another traffic stop for expired license plates led to an arrest due to additional complications: the driver not only lacked a license and proof of insurance but had existing warrants out for their arrest.
Between August 11 and August 17, Shrewsbury officers were kept busy with 13 auto accidents, 7 calls about suspicious activities, and 13 theft incidents. In addition, they responded to 30 fire department assists and conducted 23 traffic stops, underscoring the range of incidents the local police force address in their diligent efforts to maintain community safety.
