Thrill-seekers and nostalgic fans are being given notice, as Six Flags Great America in Gurnee waves a temporary goodbye to the Raging Bull coaster. According to information shared by NBC Chicago, the legendary roller coaster, known for its soaring heights and deep drops, will shut down for a "major refresh." The park announced that August 18 marks the final ride before the coaster closes for a full repaint.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Six Flags indicated that while the Raging Bull, a fan favorite since its 1999 debut, will retain its original color scheme, the closure means the ride's absence during a shift in park operations. As summer fades, Six Flags plans to reduce its schedule to weekends only beginning on the date of the coaster's closure, which heralds in a new rhythm as Labor Day approaches. However, the paint job on Raging Bull, is not one that can be dashed off in a mere couple of days, given the ride's impressive stretch at 5,057 feet.
Adrenaline junkies can take solace in the fact that the park still has plenty to offer, including the "Wrath of Rakshasa," the newest addition to Six Flags Great America's lineup of thrilling experiences, as highlighted by NBC Chicago. The timing of Raging Bull's refresh is particularly curious for enthusiasts, as WGN-TV has reported that Six Flags has not yet disclosed a reopening date for the ride, leaving some to wonder if the iconic coaster will spin back to life in time for the park's Fright Fest, which runs from September 13 to November 2.
Despite the temporary shuttering of Raging Bull, the park continues to operate robustly. Transitioning to its fall calendar, guests can still expect access to the park on weekends and select weekdays for the remainder of the season, as stated by WGN-TV. Those in pursuit of the latest park hours and further information on attractions can find updates on the Six Flags website, ensuring plans, are seamless for those eager to indulge in the thrills that remain available.
