The City of Snellville is poised to vote on whether to maintain their current property tax rate at the upcoming Aug. 11 Mayor and Council meeting. As reported by the city's official website, the proposal intends to keep the millage rate at 4 mills for the year 2025, which though unchanged, would result in a slight tax increase for property owners due to changes in property values.
If the rate is upheld, there will be a 1.83 percent increase, which pans out to 0.072 mills over the so-called rollback rate – the figure calculated to produce the same revenue as the previous year, adjusted for new assessments. To put it in perspective, a home with a fair market value of $375,000 would see an annual increase of about $10.80, while a commercial property valued at $500,000 could expect an increase around $14.40.
Ahead of the decision, Snellville officials have scheduled three public hearings. The announcement posted on the city's news section extends an invitation for all citizens to participate and voice their opinions on the proposed tax increase. The first hearing is slated for the same evening as the council vote, Aug. 11, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Snellville City Hall, 2342 Oak Road. Two additional hearings will follow later in the month, scheduled for Aug. 25 at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., conveniently hosted at the same location.
