Heads up, St. Charles Parish commuters: the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a full closure of LA 48, also known as River Road, in both westbound and eastbound directions. The shutdown is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 22, at 7:00 p.m. and is expected to last until August 25, concluding at 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. The closure is due to construction work involving the overhead pipe rack at Bunge North America.
For those traveling between James St W and Jonathan Rd, rerouting is necessary. The DOTD has confirmed that the closure is full, meaning no passage will be permitted through that section of River Road during construction. Travelers should adjust their plans accordingly and use alternative routes.
A detour has been designated to help motorists navigate around the construction zone. Traffic will be redirected to use I-310. According to the DOTD’s official announcement, detour signs will be installed to guide drivers during the closure. Commuters should allow extra travel time and exercise caution while following the detour.
