According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), from today through March 27, 2026, US 61 will be under construction from Wildcat Dr. to Airport Rd. Nightly between the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., you can expect both intermittent and alternating lane closures on this stretch of road, weather permitting.
DOTD has confirmed that at least one lane in each direction will remain open throughout the construction period. The project will include asphalt patching, milling, and paving operations. For drivers seeking to bypass the affected area, detours have been provided: Northbound US 61 motorists can take LA 3223 (Elm St.) south to LA 44, then head west to LA 54, and continue north to rejoin US 61. Southbound drivers can take LA 54 south to LA 44, proceed east to LA 3223, and travel north to merge back onto US 61.
This construction may require some additional planning for your late-night travel. DOTD has also confirmed that "There are no restrictions for oversized loads," meaning larger shipments will still be able to pass through without issue.
