Leaders from St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County, and Franklin County have signed an agreement to create the Gateway Regional Law Enforcement Training Center. The center is designed to strengthen police training and address challenges in recruitment and retention, according to St. Louis County Government.
The project will be funded with $50 million from the Missouri Department of Public Safety. An eight-member governing commission will oversee decisions on location, construction, and operations. St. Louis County will have four representatives, St. Charles County two, and Jefferson and Franklin counties one each.
Appointed members include Dudley McCarter, Michelle Schwerin, Roland J. Corvington, and May Scheve Reardon, all of whom bring backgrounds in law, public safety, or government service. The commission is expected to begin meeting next month.
