
A St. Louis County neighborhood is grappling with the aftermath of a homicide that claimed the life of a local man. Derrick Merit, 39, from the 200 block of Carrington Lane, fell victim to a stabbing incident that occurred last Sunday. According to a press release by the St. Louis County Police Department, officers found Merit with severe stab wounds after responding to a call for service around 4:28 p.m. on August 17.
Despite efforts to save him, Merit, who had been transported to an area hospital, could not overcome the life-threatening injuries he sustained and was pronounced deceased. Working the scene found in the South County Precinct, detectives from the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are currently managing the ongoing homicide investigation. A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with the crime, facing charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action, the St. Louis County Family Court currently detaining the minor.
The identity of the young suspect has not been released due to their age. The Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing clarity to this case.
