Last week, the peace of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Southeast Shelby County was disrupted by a brazen theft, but swift action from local law enforcement has led to a promising resolution. As detailed in a social media post from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, two trailers housing approximately $6,000 worth of equipment were reported stolen from the church's parking lot last Monday.
Investigators from the Burglary, Robbery, Auto Theft (B.R.A.T.) unit sprang into action, managing to identify the suspect vehicle linked to the theft. This breakthrough led to a search warrant being executed at a residence on the 2100 block of Kentucky Street, where the situation took an alarming twist. During the search, detectives didn't just recover all the stolen property, but they also found three loaded firearms, one of which had been reported stolen out of Southaven.
The effort culminated in the arrests of Gregory Bratcher, 42, and Jacobie Moore, 26. Bratcher now faces charges, including being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and theft of property $10,000-60,000, while Moore has been charged with theft of property $10,000-60,000. With the investigation ongoing, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office has indicated that additional charges and arrests may be forthcoming.
