With the academic year on the horizon, Style Saves, a non-profit based in Miami, has stepped up to ensure students in South Florida are prepped with necessary supplies. Operating out of the Miami Beach Convention Center, the organization dispensed a variety of back-to-school essentials including uniforms, backpacks, school supplies, and even haircuts. With the assistance of volunteers and community members, Style Saves is making sure that school children are walking into their classrooms, armed with tools for a new beginning.
Over in Broward County, according to WSVN, school bus drivers are preparing to kick off their Monday morning routes, heralding the start of a new school year. Anticipation fills the air as teachers, like one at Hollywood Central Prep K-8, await the arrival of both familiar and new faces in their classrooms. "I'm extremely excited to see my new fifth graders and to see my old students from last year, because now they're just going to be right across the hallway," the teacher expressed.
Amidst these preparations, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, still basking in the twilight of summer break, are gearing up for Thursday's commencement of classes. The school district is riding high on a six-year streak of being an "A" district as reported by WSVN. Dr. Jose Dotres, the superintendent, emphasized the district's commitment to quality, stating, "Every conversation, every interaction, every impression is a chance to remind families that we are their best choice."
Meanwhile, reflecting on the broader impact of the back-to-school drive, an initiative that started modestly to help just 50 students has blossomed into a citywide effort that now supports thousands. According to NBC6, these efforts are thanks to two women who saw a need and filled it. Their vision has expanded into a major community event that continues to grow and support families in the Miami area.
