An Arizona man has found himself on the wrong side of the law after attempting to impersonate an FBI agent, a ruse that came to an abrupt end following a citizen's tip-off. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Roderick A. Gaines, a 53-year-old resident of Surprise, Arizona, was taken into custody after evidence emerged of him conducting traffic stops equipped with a black Ford F-150, adorned with unauthorized red and blue flashing lights.

It all began on April 10, when an observant tipster noticed the suspicious activity on Loop 303 and Lake Pleasant Parkway and swiftly reported it to Arizona DPS. The individual went a step further by providing video proof of the encounter. "The tipster provided investigators with video of the suspect and victim vehicles. Red and blue flashing lights are visible on the suspect vehicle’s front windshield during the incident," detailed a DPS news release, as obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Findings from the continuing investigation led to Gaines' arrest last Tuesday, August 5 at his home.

In the raid orchestrated by troopers, they uncovered not only the Ford F-150 used in the impersonation but also a jacket and hat marked with "FBI," as well as a gun among other police paraphernalia. "Gaines was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and faces one charge of impersonating a peace officer and one charge of unlawful imprisonment," DPS relayed as per FOX 10 Phoenix.

Public vigilance played a substantial role in this case, prompting DPS to issue a call for more information. The law enforcement agency urged anyone with information about the case, or anyone who believes they had contact with Gaines, to call Arizona DPS at 877-4AZ-TIPS or submit tips online at azdps.gov/tips, as mentioned by AZ Family. While the full extent of Gaines' deceptive activities is not yet known, authorities are piecing together his interactions.
