Following a high-speed chase and shooting involving Louisiana State Police and a suspect in Orleans Parish on the night of August 7, officials have apprehended 19-year-old Anthony Rios-Flores. In an update released by Louisiana State Police, Rios-Flores was arrested after being identified as the driver of a 2012 Honda Fit, who allegedly led troopers on a dangerous pursuit. The investigation started after a trooper tried to quickly to execute a routine traffic stop which then escalated into a pursuit ending on Pleasure Street, where the suspect vehicle struck an LSP patrol unit.
The official report by the Louisiana State Police states, "On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Rios-Flores was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Speeding, and two counts of Hit and Run." This comes after an intense search for Rios-Flores transformed from a traffic incident to a more serious criminal investigation.
During the initial encounter with Rios-Flores, the trooper discharged his weapon after the suspect’s vehicle reportedly reversed toward officers. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported to suspects or officers in the incident. Despite the use of force, the vehicle was able to flee the scene initially leading to the ongoing search until the recent arrest.
With the case still open, Louisiana State Police are tirelessly continuing to gather information. They plead for the public's assistance, urging anyone with knowledge, photos, or videos of the incident to come forward. The LSP has provided avenues for confidential tips, either through their online reporting system or by calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline.
Louisiana State Police have not disclosed additional details on the shooting but confirm that their Force Investigation Unit is handling the in-depth analysis of this serious occurrence. As part of their commitment to transparency, they have pledged to provide the community with more information upon its availability.
