An arrest has been made in connection with the July 1 shooting on Whites Creek Pike that left a 26-year-old man with abdominal injuries. Darius Owens, 27, has been apprehended as the suspected gunman who lay in wait and opened fire in a breezeway, Nashville authorities reported yesterday.
According to details released by the Nashville Police Department, Owens unexpectedly encountered the victim, emerging from an apartment, when the shooting took place. The injured man was promptly taken to Skyline Medical Center, where he received treatment for the gunshot wound. Owens faces charges, including attempted homicide, felony weapon possession, and reckless endangerment, as well as driving on a suspended license.
It was during an unrelated court appearance this morning that Owens found himself in handcuffs, arrested for his alleged role in the shooting. During a subsequent interview with detectives from the Non-Lethal Shooting Unit, Owens admitted to his involvement in the incident, the Nashville Police Department noted.
Owens is currently being held on a $510,000 bond. The gravity of the accusations is underscored by the high bond set, a reflection of the seriousness with which Nashville authorities regard gun violence and public safety. The next steps in the legal process for Owens will unfold as the case moves through the court system.
