A potential threat was neutralized at Palm Beach International Airport this week, thanks to the vigilance of airport operations personnel and swift action by deputies. Local 10 reports that yesterday, at approximately 7:10 a.m., a man was spotted behaving suspiciously in a restricted parking area at the airport.
Identified as Michael Rodrigues, 41, deputies encountered him as they began investigating the report, outside a rental car while apparently getting dressed. Upon searching the vehicle, a loaded magazine for an AR-15 was discovered inside the glove compartment, leading to a further search. A fully loaded AR-15 rifle, along with multiple knives and a machete, were subsequently found concealed under a blanket on the seat, according to a statement obtained by CBS News Miami.
Rodrigues was arrested without incident, and charges against him include trespassing an operational area on airport property, possession of cocaine, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO), implied in her statement to the media that deputies might have foiled Rodrigues's "evil plan" with their timely intervention. As of this reporting, Rodrigues is being interviewed by detectives, reports the PBSO via their official X account.
