In a patriotic display of community service and a nod to tradition, 17-year-old Jake Slanaker has taken his boyhood lessons to the streets of Middle Tennessee by constructing four American flag drop boxes, a City of Franklin social media post announced. These repositories, stemming from his Eagle Scout service project, will enable residents to retire their worn or damaged U.S. flags with the dignity they deserve. One such box finds its home at Franklin Fire Station 1, where Jake shares a personal connection through the memories crafted with his father, Firefighter Brian Slanaker.
The Franklin Fire Station 1 holds more than just one of the new drop boxes; it serves as a thread in the fabric of a family's service to community and country. Jake's father has put in a decade at that station, and it's where he rubbed shoulders with Captain Tom Chaffin and Lieutenant-Paramedic Seth Frost. Both Chaffin and Frost, also Eagle Scouts, have played pivotal roles in Jake's journey through Scouting, offering ongoing mentorship. "One of these drop boxes is now located at Franklin Fire Station 1, 500 New Highway 96 West, a place where Jake has many fond memories with his dad," states the City of Franklin's post.
