Attorney General Ken Paxton is stepping into the fray with an investigation aimed at the Plano Independent School District (PISD), based on reports of antisemitic behavior among its students and staff. Paxton's office has flagged concerns over the school's alleged endorsement of pro-Palestinian materials and events, highlighted by reports that PISD granted students excused absences to participate in a pro-Palestinian walkout, which Paxton interprets as the District's tacit approval of an anti-Israel stance.
In a decisive tone, Paxton declared, "The reports regarding antisemitic activity in Plano ISD schools are alarming and must be swiftly and aggressively addressed," according to a statement obtained by texasattorneygeneral.gov. The investigation was announced just ahead of the somber two-year anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel. Allegedly facilitated or supported by teachers or administrators, any anti-Israel rhetoric in Texas schools is under scrutiny.
The Attorney General has demanded a range of documents from PISD Superintendent Theresa Williams, including those detailing the District's policies on walkouts and any evidence supporting the use of "anti-Israel curriculum." Paxton's letter also seeks information on any disciplinary actions taken against individuals engaging in antisemitic conduct within the school system.
"As we approach the two-year anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel, it is crucial that PISD take all necessary steps to combat antisemitism and appropriately discipline teachers, staff, and students that act in contravention to state law and PISD policy," Paxton stated on Texas Attorney General Office, as per the investigation triggered by reports of antisemitic incidents.
