On late Monday afternoon, a violent incident left a man with several stab wounds in downtown Portland. Officers from the Portland Police Bureau were called to Southwest Yamhill Street and Southwest 10th Avenue following a reported disturbance. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 44-year-old male victim who had steep interventions, attempting to quell a brewing altercation outside a local library before becoming the target himself.
The victim, whose identity hasn't been released, was promptly attended to by medics and transported to a nearby hospital. His injuries, thought to be serious at the time, have since been classified as non-life-threatening. The perpetrators, meanwhile, attempted escape but were later apprehended in the Holladay Park area with the help of Transit Police and other partners.
Three individuals are now facing charges in connection with the assault, as indicated by the Portland Police Bureau. Anthony M. Nicholas, 18, is charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Ja'Riyah L. Williams, 21, and Daviana E. Anderson, also 18, face charges of Assault in the Third Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The Portland Police Bureau has not yet released details on the sequence of events that led to the assault, though they've credited library staff, local security, and the prompt response of assisting units for their cooperation. The Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Evidence Division of PPB are conducting further investigations into the incident. Additional information and updates will likely surface as this story develops and as the judicial process for the arrested individuals unfolds.
