A car crash in Pontiac on Friday killed three people, including two children. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a 21-year-old Honda Civic driver veered into oncoming traffic on Joslyn Road around 8:20 p.m., striking multiple objects before hitting a Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a red light at Montcalm and Joslyn Roads, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. The Malibu’s driver died at the scene, and her two young children later died from their injuries at McLaren Oakland Hospital.
Emergency services, including STAR EMS and the Waterford Regional Fire Department, were swiftly on the scene, though their life-saving measures could not save the deceased victims. FOX 2 Detroit notes that a third child, aged 9, is in critical condition at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital.
The driver of the Civic was taken to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital and is in stable condition. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with speed possibly being a factor, as per WXYZ. Officials have not ruled out alcohol or drugs. "This unimaginable tragedy has taken the lives of a parent and two young children," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit.
