Commuters in Tulsa are facing a multifaceted puzzle of lane closures and detours, as several major construction projects press on towards their distant completion dates. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has flagged a series of disruptions, that includes the narrowing of SH-51/Broken Arrow Expwy near 31st St. and the closure of the eastbound on-ramp from 31st St./Yale Ave. scheduled for Tuesday, during the hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to right of way maintenance.
Moreover, the traffic flow on US-75, at the intersection with I-244, is compromised down to one lane daily through Friday because of ongoing project work. In a related note, there's a prolonged squeeze on eastbound I-244 near US-75, persisting through summer 2025 for bridge rehabilitation. Meanwhile, over at KEystone Dam, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has sanctioned lane narrowing to one with the integration of temporary traffic lights, persevering through August.
As for those traversing the I-44 and US-75 interchange, be ready for an intricate dance of detours and lane closures anticipated to last until the summer of 2028. This improvement project has instituted several closures, including both east and westbound I-44 ramps to northbound US-75, as well as the southbound US-75 ramp to westbound I-44. The adjacent Skelly Dr. and 51st St. areas have also fallen victim to traffic reroutes and reduced lanes.
Residents of Catoosa must contend with their own set of challenges as the interchange of I-44, SH-66, and the Will Rogers Turnpike undergo renovations slated to endure through summer 2026. Ongoing modifications feature closed ramps, limited merge areas, and width-narrowed lanes, to name but a few impediments. Glenpool denizens aren't exempt from these upheavals, with US-75 bridge construction at 141st St. pressing on through October, provisioning narrowed lanes and a shut down southbound off-ramp.
Lastly, Sand Springs has its share of construction woes with SH-97 pavement rehabilitation, aiming for completion by summer 2025, and the eastbound US-412 on-ramp from SH-97/Wilson Ave. sealed off through August. To the north, SH-66's trajectory is winnowed to a single lane around Bird Creek near Catoosa, a condition expected to prevail until early 2026 due to a bridge replacement project.
