A tragic occurrence unfolded on Saturday afternoon when two children were critically injured during a domestic dispute that precipitated a police chase in Memphis. According to a report from FOX 13 Memphis, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) received a call at 3:32 p.m. regarding an altercation on the 3600 block of South Mendenhall Road, where a male suspect allegedly fled the scene with a one-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy in a 2008 Honda Civic bearing a Wisconsin registration.
The situation further developed when, less than an hour later, MPD responded to a call about a suspicious person located on the 2400 block of Airways Boulevard, where the officer discovered the same individual associated with the previous incident alongside the children who were then in a state of medical distress. "Officers made the scene and discovered the same male suspect from the earlier incident with a two-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl, who were transported to the hospital, both in critical condition," Action News 5 stated in their coverage of the incident.
While the details surrounding the cause of the children's injuries were not immediately clarified, there was a silver lining as the one-year-old girl's condition was later upgraded to non-critical, per the information provided by MPD. The man who had taken the children was detained by the authorities, which led to an ongoing investigation into the sequence of events that resulted in harm to the young ones.
