Last Tuesday, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents cited Jessie Voisin, 78, and Paul Verdin, 68, of Grand Caillou. They were accused of shrimping in Terrebonne Parish during a season closed until on Monday, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
During a routine patrol, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents stopped a vessel engaged in commercial shrimping with skimmer nets, which are prohibited during the closed season. Agents found Voisin and Verdin on board with 306 pounds of shrimp taken illegally. The shrimp were seized to be sold at the dock to the highest bidder, and the two skimmer nets and the vessel were confiscated under a department seizure order.
Two men in Louisiana were cited for using skimmer nets during the closed shrimping season, an offense that carries fines of $400 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Sgt. Norman Deroche and Corporal Jonathan Boudreaux were involved in the enforcement action.
