Earlier today, a collision claimed the lives of two young men on the Bronx River Parkway. The incident, occurring near the Gun Hill Road exit, involved a total of seven vehicles, including two mopeds and five cars. According to Gothamist, the victims, 21 and 23 years old, were ejected from their mopeds and subsequently pronounced dead at local hospitals.
The New York Police Department reported that the pileup happened around 12:30 a.m., but they have yet to definitively ascertain the cause of the crash. They have taken one person into custody, though no charges have been officially pressed. The NYPD continued to thoroughly examine the scene, seeking to understand which vehicle he was driving. Meanwhile, the southbound lanes were closed. As stated by ABC7NY, the parkway remained shut down in the vicinity of East Gun Hill Road in Olinville, as investigators canvassed the aftermath.
Information about the other individuals involved in the crash has not yet been released, and it remains unclear whether there were additional injuries. The identities of the deceased men have also not been made public, pending notification of their next of kin.
