Yesterday, an Uber driver and his passenger found themselves embroiled in a harrowing encounter when what began as a routine obstacle in the road swiftly cascaded into an attempted carjacking in Lancaster, MA. The Lancaster Police Department was alerted to the incident near the Bolton town line on Seven Bridge Road (RT. 117) through a 911 call, as reported by the Town of Lancaster's social media post.
Upon their arrival, officers pieced together the sequence of events. The vehicle had halted to clear a tree limb obstructing the lane, which is when two individuals decided to quite literally emerge from the shadows. One of the assailants, brandishing a firearm, demanded the passenger's phone and to forcefully vacate from her seat, while his accomplice attempted to commandeer the vehicle. The Uber driver, in a daring decision, chose to directly engage with the would-be thieves, a move that eventually led to him and his passenger escaping the ordeal unscathed.
The police are on the lookout for two suspects, described as Hispanic males with one sporting puffy hair and sweatpants, and the other's details remaining vague. The act, described by the Lancaster Police as serious, isn't believed to pose a long-term threat to the community. "Although the crimes associated with this incident are serious in nature, investigators do not believe there is an ongoing or specific danger to the community at this time," the statement detailed.
As the investigation unfurls, the authorities have not released additional details regarding the suspects or whether any arrests have been made. The incident has left the community on alert, but reassured by the police's statement that there is no belief of an ongoing threat. The Lancaster Police Department continues to delve deeper into the nature of this brazen attempted carjacking, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
