The University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology recently hosted the AI + Cybersecurity Conference, bringing together tech enthusiasts, industry professionals, and academics to explore how artificial intelligence can enhance cybersecurity. According to the University's newsroom, the event included a series of sessions and keynote presentations designed to inform and engage attendees.

Dr. Jasbir Dhaliwal, executive vice president of Research & Innovation at the University of Memphis and executive director of the FedEx Institute of Technology, emphasized the importance of keeping the local region at the forefront of technological advancement. He noted that innovation is driving change not only in the regional economy but also across broader society. The conference featured key sessions on the practical application of AI and its growing role in governance and leadership. As highlighted in Bray’s keynote address, these discussions were particularly relevant in light of increasing threats to digital infrastructure.

A new artificial intelligence research center was launched at the University of Memphis in connection with the event. Co-led by three faculty members, the center is intended to support AI research and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. The initiative is part of the University’s broader efforts to expand its role in emerging technologies.

The conference served as a forum for sharing ideas and showcasing ongoing projects in the field of AI and cybersecurity. Dr. Jasbir Dhaliwal highlighted the 901 AI community group as an example of regional efforts in advancing AI and noted that the event helped formalize partnerships, including one with the Memphis Society of Information Management. Attendees were presented with information on AI’s applications in cybersecurity and opportunities for future collaboration.
