The University of Utah's gymnastics team, the Red Rocks, is making headlines not just for their athletic prowess but for their exceptional academic performance in the past season. As reported by UtahUtes.com, a whopping 12 student-athletes nabbed WCGA Academic All-American Honors. This recognition highlights the dedication these gymnasts have shown in balancing their rigorous training schedules with their academic commitments throughout the 2024-25 season.
The Red Rocks' team average GPA sat at an impressive 3.6825, with a staggering 75% of the team achieving a GPA of 3.500 or higher. This feat is no small potatoes when you consider that just holding your own in college courses can be challenging enough without the added pressure of being a top-notch athlete. Elizabeth Gantner, Jaylene Gilstrap, Ashley Glynn, Sarah Krump, Grace McCallum, Amelie Morgan, Ana Padurariu, Clara Raposo, Jaedyn Rucker, Makenna Smith, Camie Winger, and Ella Zirbes were all listed as Scholastic All-America Award winners by the WCGA for their academic achievements last season.
In a stunning display of scholastic achievement, Gantner, McCallum, Padurariu, Raposo, and Zirbes all notched perfect 4.0 GPAs. They are, quite literally, setting the bar high and proving that academic and athletic excellence are not mutually exclusive. As the Red Rocks gear up for the 2026 season, with their sights set on building upon their remarkable 49th consecutive Nationals appearance and fifth consecutive Final Four berth in 2025, they do so with a team as formidable in the classroom as they are on the court.
