Heads up, Bay Area drivers – if you're planning to navigate the roads around Warrenton and Wentzville in mid-August, you might want to allow for some extra travel time. MoDOT – St. Louis overnight closures of the westbound Interstate 64 exit ramp to westbound Interstate 70, as part of the ongoing Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project. These closures will take place from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on August 11; and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on August 18, and August 20. The project is weather dependent, so keep an eye out for updates.
During these times, westbound I-64 traffic must detour using the eastbound I-70 Exit 1B ramp, from there, drivers will exit at the Route A interchange, and navigate back onto westbound I-70. This might be a minor annoyance for local commuters, and anyone trying to get a jump on overnight long-haul routes. The purpose for the closure, is to allow workers to install barrier walls and move materials crucial to the creation of the new I-70/I-64/U.S. Route 61 interchange.
The Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project, awarded last November, encompasses a significant overhaul of the eastern portion of I-70. It's a long-term investment in Missouri's transportation infrastructure, intended to improve safety, enhance traffic flow and cater to the future transportation demands of the region. The construction, although sure to bring some temporary inconvenience, promises better roads ahead with an expected completion date in 2028.
MoDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, obey the signage around work zones, and consider using alternative routes when possible. With these closures, MoDOT is taking steps to ensure that the construction impacts are minimized while critical infrastructure work is completed.
