In what might seem like a throwback to simpler times, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Athletics has announced a shift back to physical parking passes for the upcoming 2025 football season. You can pick up these tangible tokens of parking esteem if you're a season ticket holder and contribute at least $100 per year as a member of the Miner Athletic Club. According to UTEP Athletics, there's a special kickoff event for the passes slated for August 22, from 5-7 pm at the GECU Terrace in the Sun Bowl.
Why embrace the analog in a digital world? Well, UTEP Vice President and Director of Athletics Jim Senter explained that "for the convenience of our valued season ticket holders, we are moving from digital parking passes to physical parking passes for the 2025 football and 2025-26 basketball seasons," as per UTEP Athletics. This decision is purportedly to better secure the parking lots and supposedly streamline the game day experience.
And it's not just about where to park your four wheels. During the "Happy Hour" event, DeadBeach Brewery, a partner of UTEP Athletics, will be dishing out free samples of their "Miner Brew" beer. Attendees can also snag a complimentary Sun City hat with their season ticket account and scope out the premium seating options still up for grabs. It’s a physical pass mixed with a physical glass, all designed to ratchet up the pre-game enthusiasm.
If you can't make the event to pick up your parking paper entitlement, no need to worry. The UTEP Athletics Ticket Office will be handing out the passes starting August 22 during their business hours, which run from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, if you're planning to roll up to the game without a season ticket, single-game buyers will be able to purchase their parking on game day, as long as they're not trying to score a free lot. So, if you're looking to smoothly sail into the parking territory on match day, it'll take a bit more physical handling than before.
