This morning, an incident involving a high-speed chase and subsequent arrest unfolded in American Canyon, after a routine traffic stop took an unexpected turn. The American Canyon Police Department reported conducting a traffic enforcement stop on Highway 29 near Mini Drive, where they encountered Antwan Hendricks of Vallejo.
Initially appearing to comply, Hendricks, after officers spotted a marijuana-related infraction, decided to flee. His actions initiated a pursuit that saw him barreling through the streets at speeds topping 100 miles per hour, sometimes with his vehicle's headlights off to shroud his escape in the dark. In a conspicuous act of evasion, he discarded a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun from his vehicle during the chase. The firearm was later recovered by the officers involved.
The pursuit eventually stopped at Hendricks' North Vallejo residence, where surrender was inevitable, and Hendricks was taken into custody without further incident. According to the American Canyon Police Department's social media post, he has been booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections, facing several charges. These include carrying a loaded concealed firearm, possession of a firearm not registered to him, felony evading, resisting and delaying a peace officer, destroying evidence, and having an open container of marijuana in his vehicle.
