Walnut Creek, known for its tranquil nights and 55+ community, was disturbed by a violent episode last Thursday, when an elderly man was assaulted and robbed. According to Hoodline, the incident involved four young females, two 18-year-olds from Concord and two minors from Walnut Creek, who were arrested following the attack. The assault occurred near the Rossmoor Shopping Center in the 1900 block of Tice Valley Boulevard, where the victim was found with significant injuries.
As reported by Contra Costa County’s official website, two of the suspects, Antonina "Hunter" Abdulwajid and Jaycee Whitney Chamberlain Behnke, both 18, were charged with second-degree robbery and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. The charges suggest a disturbing willingness to perpetuate violence against a defenseless individual. The victim was sitting in a van when the suspects circled and then attacked him as he got out to confront them.
"Everyone deserves to live in safe and secure communities," Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton stated, as quoted by the Contra Costa County's official outlet. This sentiment reflects local authorities' recognition of the public's need for safety, particularly in areas with a higher population of older adults. The Walnut Creek Police Department has emphasized that there appears to be no continued threat to the community after these arrests.
