A tragic incident unfolded in Pontiac on Monday, where a 77-year-old West Bloomfield man was killed after being struck by a truck. The accident occurred near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Elm Street. According to CBS News Detroit, the man, identified as Jehad Alrayess, was believed to be lost and trying to get directions when he unwittingly stepped into the path of an oncoming GMC Sierra with a trailer, driven by a 45-year-old resident from Imlay City.
After being swiftly taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital by STAR EMS, regretfully, Alrayess succumbed to his injuries. This incident marks the fifth pedestrian death in Pontiac this year, as reported by ClickOnDetroit, highlighting an alarming trend of similar tragedies, aside from other collisions where victims sustained significant injuries.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office has ruled out alcohol, drugs, and speed as contributing factors in the crash, as noted by ClickOnDetroit. The sobering series of pedestrian fatalities this year has prompted officials to once again stress the importance of road safety. "Drivers are urged to stay alert, particularly in residential and high-traffic areas, and pedestrians are encouraged to use crosswalks whenever possible and exercise caution when crossing busy roadways," stated the sheriff's office.
