The Westborough Police Department has confirmed the arrest of a 33-year-old Westborough man, Rigoberto M. Vasquez Mendoza, in relation to a sexual assault involving a minor. According to the department's social media post, Chief Todd Minardi announced that the arrest followed a thorough investigation sparked by a sexual assault report received last Sunday.
Investigators collaborated with the Lynn Police Department, who first received details on the incident that purportedly occurred on August 8 in Westborough. An ensuing investigation warranted an arrest warrant for Mendoza charging him with Aggravated Rape of a Child with a Ten-Year Age Difference, under Massachusetts General Laws (MGL Ch. 265 §23A/B). Detectives attempted to detain Mendoza at his residence last Tuesday but were unable to locate him at the time, setting into motion a manhunt with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the Massachusetts State Police VFAS.
Two days after Mendoza evaded the initial search, last Thursday, he was found hiding out in a Worcester home. The Westborough Police Department’s post stated that they took Mendoza into custody without any complications. Following his arrest, he was escorted to the Westborough Police Department for the booking process.
Afterward, Mendoza faced arraignment in the Westborough District Court where the judge set his bail at $5,000. The efficiency of local law enforcement in collaborating across city lines and with federal agencies speaks to the commitment to address serious allegations speedily and, with the gravity they warrant.
