Tennis enthusiasts and pickleball aficionados in Duluth will need to take a temporary break from the Wheeler Athletic Complex sport courts, as city officials have slated maintenance work starting September 1. The multi-use courts, popular for both tennis/pickleball and basketball, will undergo sealant coating and striping to extend their longevity. According to a press release from the City of Duluth, this means the entire sports court will be off-limits until the anticipated project completion date of September 5.
Starting on Friday, the tennis nets will be removed in preparation for the work, and it seems that the court gates will be locked from Monday to be locked once crews kick off their labors. A straightforward maintenance job this may be, but for those who volley and dribble their way through the week, that five-day stretch without court access will surely cause a play pause.
The City of Duluth has really extended an olive branch of patience, expressing gratitude ahead of time for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause.
