The Williamson County Sheriff's Office, TN, announced its participation in the upcoming Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, and one could feel a particular stir of excitement. Scheduled for Wednesday between 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library, the blood drive transforms this civic duty into a friendly competition for a cause, complete with the lure of bragging rights and the whimsical Golden Arm Trophy.
While the trophy may be imaginary, the impact is anything but. For every pint donated, a $5 donation will be made by Nabholz Construction to the Gary Sinise Foundation, in memory of Deputy Robert Andrew Ryan's service and life. In keeping with the tradition of this 13th annual event, the sheriff's office looks not only to outdo other departments but also to honor a legacy. "Deputy Robert Andrew Ryan’s service had only just begun, yet his servant’s heart was clear to everyone who knew him. Let’s honor his legacy by showing up for our neighbors. On August 20, roll up a sleeve in Andrew’s name and help save a life," Sheriff Jeff Hughes stated in a social media outreach on the department’s Facebook page.
The post, which served to both announce the event and call for participants, also provided details for those interested in signing up at RedCrossBlood.org using the sponsor code Williamsonbob. The drive underscores the essential lifeline that blood donations provide, particularly as national blood shortages often make headlines. Indeed, the communal gesture of donating blood retains its profound simplicity – one person laying bare a vein to offer a stranger a chance at life.
The competition will unfold at 8109 Concord Rd, Brentwood, TN, inviting all to be part of a tradition that honors the past and protects the future, in the true spirit of what it means to serve and protect. Full event details can be found on the sheriff's office Facebook page.
