A deadly incident in North Phoenix left one woman dead and a 47-year-old man in custody, as reported by ABC15 and confirmed by local police. The tragedy unfolded early Friday morning in a home near 40th Street and Bell Road.
Responding to reports of a shooting at around 6:00 a.m., Phoenix police discovered 45-year-old Alma Victoria Suchilt with multiple gunshot wounds. She received hospital treatment, where, tragically, she was later pronounced dead. The suspect, identified as Jonathan Llamas Cisneros, was subsequently taken into custody far from the crime scene, in a collaborative effort involving the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol, and Arizona Department of Transportation.
Further details about the event were sparse as the investigation was ongoing. Meanwhile, FOX 10 Phoenix provided insights from the community, shedding light on the atmosphere surrounding the home. Neighbors reported unusual activity at the residence in question, citing multiple cameras, tinfoil covering doors and windows, and an incident where a man reportedly brandished a weapon at a dog walker.
"It's quiet, it's friendly around here. You know we're not necessarily all that close. But very friendly...wave at each other," Jamie, a local resident of 11 years, told FOX 10 Phoenix. His previous encounters with the suspect's residence signaled red flags, yet the news of the shooting were met with shock and sadness, albeit not complete surprise. "It’s obviously concerning being that it’s right there, not too far from where my house is, but there are some people that are a little nuts and there are some neighbors that sometimes, even though it’s a great neighborhood, you always have that one," he said.
As the police have not released the identities of both the victim and the suspect or the possible motive, the community waits for answers. Homicide detectives remain on the case, piecing together the events that led up to the fatal shooting. The arrest over an hour away in Gila Bend following the incident has raised questions that remain unanswered at this time, with authorities expected to provide more details in the days to come.
