A harrowing ordeal came to an end inside a Publix in Port St. Lucie, where a woman reported being kidnapped from Hollywood and subsequently rescued. The incident, which unfolded yesterday, saw a woman approach a Publix employee for help, which led to a call to the authorities. NBC Miami reported the woman identified her abductor as a family friend who also sexually assaulted her before taking her to an unknown destination.
The distressing situation began when, according to the victim, she was taken against her will from an undisclosed Hollywood location. The man, travelling in a white van, stopped at the Publix located at 10400 SW Village Drive, as mentioned by WSVN. Seizing an opportunity to escape, the woman, while at the Publix, got the attention of an employee. She was quickly hidden in an office space where the employee called 911, Port St. Lucie Police stated.
Responding to the scene around 9:15 a.m., police took the accused into custody and towed away the white van that was located in the supermarket's parking lot. It is roughly a 90 miles distance between Hollywood and Port St. Lucie, the site where the victim found refuge and the alleged abduction took place. The police are continuing their work on this active investigation, with updates anticipated to be given on Monday, outlined by both NBC Miami and WSVN reports.
Details surrounding the identity of the suspect and the charges have not been disclosed yet at this time.
