In an emotional display of community solidarity and remembrance, Deputy Mike Allred and his K-9 partner Azula made a surprise appearance at the Golden Spike Rodeo, part of the Box Elder County Fair, just one week following a shooting in Tremonton that left two officers dead and themselves wounded. The appearance, which KUTV reported, saw the deputy and his canine companion honored as heroes, receiving a standing ovation from a crowd gathered to celebrate and grieve.

On the night of August 17th, a domestic violence call led to tragedy when Sgt. Lee Sorenson and Officer Eric Estrada of the Tremonton-Garland Police Department were fatally shot. Deputy Allred and K-9 Azula also received injuries from the gunfire. At the rodeo, Allred reportedly knelt to pet Azula before acknowledging the crowd, a moment captured and shared by the sheriff's office. "Our hearts are heavy as we continue to mourn the tragic loss of Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada," read the sheriff's office's post, as per FOX 13.

The fair also served as a platform for honoring the fallen officers. A fundraiser organized by the Utah Fraternal Order of Police on Saturday morning collected $260,000 in pledges to support the families of the deceased, KSL reported. Lynette Crockett, Box Elder County's public information officer, commended the generosity seen at the fair, saying, "It was beautiful. We had several generous donations."

As the community rallied around its police force, Brent Jex, a detective with the Tremonton-Garland Police Department, praised the support from the people of Box Elder County. "In almost 30 years of doing this all across the state, I've never seen anything like it. Thank you," Jex told KSL. The fundraiser, the rodeo tribute, and the community's response exemplify a region coming together in the face of adversity and loss.
