The Goodyear Police Department has reported that on Tuesday, a single-engine plane piloted by a yet-to-be-formally-identified individual went missing, having departed from Phoenix-Goodyear Airport at around 11:15 a.m. Following an alert issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, a widespread search was initiated that led to the discovery of the aircraft's wreckage by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday evening near Goodyear. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, authorities located the debris near Ocotillo and Bullard.
Further details provided by AZfamily reveal that the plane, a Pitts S-1T, housed only the pilot when it went down. The extent of the wreckage has made immediate identification of the pilot challenging, and officials are awaiting formal identification processes to confirm the identity of the missing individual.
"MCSO has taken primary responsibility for the wreck investigation and is coordinating with the NTSB," the Goodyear Police Department conveyed, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. Goodyear police have assured that information will be disclosed as it becomes available, remaining focused on providing closure to those affected by the crash and ensuring the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
