Wright State University's Dayton Campus is poised to become more vibrant this fall with nearly 2,400 students set to reside on campus, marking the highest occupancy in over a decade. The university's Residence Life and Housing staff is gearing up to handle the influx of students, as reported yesterday by Wright State University's newsroom. The upsurge reflects a rise over last year's figures and seems to mirror the institution's robust retention rates.
Preparations for move-in day are in full swing, with returning students scheduled to start moving into the Dayton Campus apartments today. According to the university's newsroom, these students will quickly be issued keys by the Residence Life and Housing staff at their designated buildings. Subsequently, more than 1,150 newcomers, as well as several other returnees, will commence their campus life on August 18 during a special event dubbed Operation Move-In.
The operation will be an orchestrated affair with family and students arriving at slotted times in Lot 4, where more than 380 volunteers, including current students and faculty, will assist them in a drive-through check-in. On top of that, the student-run radio station, WWSU, is set to create a festive mood with music, games, and prizes to welcome the new and returning attendees. Meanwhile, a reception for parents and family members is planned to run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Garden of the Senses, hosted by the university's Dean of Students, Eric Corbitt.
"This is the most residential students we’ve had living on campus in over 10 years," Residence Life and Housing Director Jennifer Attenweiller expressed, attributing the surge to the university's all-time high student retention rate. She also highlighted the convenience and economic benefits of campus living, such as reduced commuting costs and better accessibility to campus amenities. Wright State University believes that a nurturing residential environment is critical to actively support student engagement and, ultimately, their success, she told the Wright State University's newsroom.
With all eyes set on the upcoming academic year, Wright State University is acting to ensure the integration of its on-campus community not only commences with efficiency but also with an emphasis on student success. The Fall Semester officially begins on August 21, and Operation Move-In is one of the first steps in fortifying the foundation for a robust and involved student body.
