A young boy drowned last Saturday afternoon while swimming in Spillway Creek, about 10 miles north of Broken Bow. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the incident happened just before 1 p.m. when the boy was swept away by the current after jumping into the river.
The boy, whose identity has not been released, was swimming without a life vest in the swift current. "Troopers say the boy jumped into the river to swim before he was overtaken by the current," according to NewsOn6.
KOCO reported that a male juvenile began struggling while swimming before being pulled underwater by the current. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said no additional details about the boy or the circumstances have been released as the investigation continues.
